The procedure involves removing excess skin, fat, and muscle from the eyelids to create a more youthful, refreshed appearance.
The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the patient’s preference and the extent of the surgery. The surgeon will make incisions along the natural creases of the eyelids to minimize scarring.
For upper eyelid surgery, the surgeon will remove excess skin and fat from the eyelid, and may also tighten the underlying muscle. For lower eyelid surgery, the surgeon will either remove or redistribute excess fat, and may also remove excess skin.
Once the excess tissue has been removed or repositioned, the surgeon will close the incisions with small sutures or surgical glue. The procedure typically takes about one to three hours to complete.
After the surgery, patients may experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort, which can be managed with medication and cold compresses. Most patients are able to return to work and other normal activities within one to two weeks.
